How to Create and Use a UPI QR Code for Payments
A UPI QR code lets anyone pay you instantly by scanning with PhonePe, GPay, Paytm, or any UPI app.
This free UPI QR code generator creates your personalized QR code in seconds. No app download. No sign-up. No charges.
What Is a UPI QR Code?
A UPI QR code is a small square image that stores your UPI payment details.
When someone scans it, their UPI app automatically fills in your UPI ID and name. They just tap Pay.
You can see these QR codes everywhere โ at kirana stores, medical shops, tea stalls, and even at temple donation counters.
This tool lets you create your own UPI QR codeโwith your name, your UPI ID, an optional fixed amount, and even your shop logo.
How to Use This UPI QR Code Generator
Using this tool takes less than a minute. Here is how it works.
Step 1โEnter your UPI ID and name
Type your UPI ID exactly as registered in your bank app.
For example: rajesh@okicici or 9876543210@paytm
Then enter your name or shop name. This is what the payer will see on their screen when they scan your code.
Step 2 โ Set amount and upload logo (optional)
You can leave the amount blank. The payer can then enter any amount they want.
Or turn on “Fix the amount” toggle. This is useful if you have a fixed fee โ like โน500 for a tuition class or โน200 for a temple donation.
You can also upload your shop logo or photo. It will appear in the center of the QR code. Keep the image under 200KB.
Step 3 โ Generate and download
Click the Generate button. Your QR code appears instantly.
Check the details shown below the QR codeโname, UPI ID, and amount. Then click Download.
The tool downloads your QR code as a PNG file that you can print or share digitally.
Who Should Use This Tool?
This tool is useful for anyone who receives UPI payments regularly.
- Shopkeepersโpaste the QR at your billing counter
- Freelancersโadd the QR to your invoice or visiting card
- Tutors and coachesโfix the fee amount so students pay the correct amount
- Small business ownersโavoid giving your UPI ID verbally every time
- Temples and donation drivesโcollect donations contactlessly with a fixed or open amount
In my banking experience, I have seen many small shopkeepers still sharing their UPI ID verbally or through WhatsApp. A printed QR code reduces mistakes and makes payments faster for both sides.
Fixed Amount vs Open Amount โ Which to Choose?
This is a question I often get.
The open amount (toggle OFF) is better when:
- You run a general store where every bill is different
- You want flexibility for the customer to decide
A fixed amount (toggle ON) is better when:
- You charge a fixed fee (school fees, gym fees, service charges)
- You want to avoid customers paying the wrong amount
- You are collecting donations with a set value
One mistake I often see is shopkeepers fixing an amount for their store QR and then forgetting to change it. Always double-check the amount shown in the preview before downloading.
Is This UPI QR Code Safe?
Yes. This tool is completely browser-based.
Your UPI ID, name, and amount are never sent to any server. The QR code is generated right on your device. Nothing is stored anywhere.
The QR code uses India’s official UPI payment standard. It works with all UPI-enabled apps including PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and BHIM.
One important tipโafter generating your QR, scan it once yourself before printing. Confirm that your name, UPI ID, and amount appear correctly on your UPI app.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Wrong UPI ID format
Your UPI ID should follow a valid format like name@bank or mobilenumber@paytm. A common mistake is entering just the mobile number without the @ part. The tool will show an error if the format is wrong.
Uploading a large logo
The tool accepts logo images up to 200KB only. If your image is larger, compress it first using any free image compressor. A clear square logo works best.
Not checking details before printing
Always scan your QR code yourself first. Check the payee name and amount. Once you print it and stick it at your counter, it is hard to replace quickly.
Using fixed amount for a general shop
If your billing amount changes with each customer, leave the amount blank. Fixed amount QR codes work best for specific services with a fixed price.
Does This QR Code Expire?
In most cases, a static UPI QR code continues to work unless your UPI ID changes or becomes inactive.
Once downloaded, you can use it for as long as your UPI ID remains active. If you ever change your UPI ID or switch banks, simply generate a new QR code.
How to Print and Display Your QR Code
After downloading, you have several options.
- Print at home โ any basic inkjet or laser printer works fine
- Print at a shop โ take the file to a photo studio or print shop
- Add to visiting cardโmost visiting card designers can add the QR image
- Share on WhatsApp โ send directly to customers who pay online
- Add to invoice โ paste the QR image in your invoice template
The downloaded image has your name, UPI ID, and amount printed below the QR. It looks clean and professional.
