UPI Scam Checker — Spot Fraud Before You Send Money
UPI fraud in India is rising fast. Scammers now use fake UPI IDs, forged payment links, and WhatsApp messages designed to look urgent and real. Use this UPI scam checker when you’re unsure whether a UPI ID, payment link, or message feels suspicious.
When Should You Use This Tool?
You received a message asking you to “verify KYC” or claiming your account will be blocked. Someone sent you a UPI ID to pay — but you don’t know them personally. A stranger promised a refund and wants you to confirm your details. These are the moments to check first, pay later.
Most people lose money not because they are careless — but because the scam message arrives at the right time, uses the right words, and creates just enough panic. A quick scan takes less than 10 seconds.
What Most People Miss
Scam UPI IDs look professional. IDs like refund@hdfc or support@paytm appear official at first glance. But real banks and apps never use these as payment addresses. Many scam IDs look official at first glance—especially ones using words like “support” or “refund.”
A “₹1 refund” link is still a trap. One common trick is sending a upi://pay link with a tiny amount — ₹1 or ₹2 — to make you approve a transaction. Once you enter your PIN, you may unknowingly approve a payment request, which can lead to loss of funds. Verify the recipient name in your UPI app before approving any payment link.
Shortened links hide the destination. If someone sends you a bit.ly or tinyurl link promising cashback or a prize — do not click it. The tool detects these link types and analyzes them using pattern rules, domain checks, and Google Safe Browsing.
A Note on “Safe” Results
Even a safe result does not mean 100% guaranteed. No automated tool can verify every UPI ID in real-time. The checker scans for known fraud patterns — it is a first filter, not a final answer.
If something feels wrong, trust that feeling. Call the person on their known number directly. Do not call back on numbers sent in the same suspicious message.
If You Have Already Been Scammed
Act within the first 30 minutes — the faster you report, the higher the chance of recovery.
Call 1930 (National Cyber Crime Helpline) immediately. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in with your transaction details. Also inform your bank’s fraud team directly.
You can generate a ready-to-send complaint using the UPI Complaint Letter Generator on this site. It creates a formatted letter you can submit to your bank or cybercrime cell.
FAQs
Can the tool check a UPI ID I want to pay?
Yes. Paste the UPI ID and the tool checks whether its handle matches known bank or payment app patterns and flags suspicious formats.
Does this tool connect to my bank or UPI app?
No. The tool works entirely offline using pattern detection and Google Safe Browsing checks for URLs. It does not access your account, transactions, or personal data.
What if I paste a real bank’s name in a message — will it get flagged?
The tool looks at patterns, not just words in isolation. A message saying “Call HDFC” will not be flagged. But “upi://pay?pa=refund@hdfc” raises a flag because combining a refund-type UPI ID with a payment link is a known fraud pattern.
Is there a limit to how many times I can check?
No daily limit. The tool only enforces a 1-second gap between checks to prevent accidental double-scans.
